There are a few different ways to look at it, but the bottom line is that coffee can give you heartburn.

But don’t panic yet! Read on to see how you can keep coffee in your life without coffee heartburn.

Coffee can cause heartburn in a few different ways.

First, coffee contains caffeine. Caffeine contributes to acid reflux by relaxing the barrier between your stomach and the esophagus. This allows more acid to make it up into your esophagus. This is what causes the feeling of heartburn.

Second, coffee is acidic. Since stomach acid causes heartburn, food and drink that is acidic is going to make the situation worse.

The first obvious tip is to avoid eating large meals for dinner. You have to remember that big meals mean that the stomach has to work harder to digest the food you eat.

This will also mean that the stomach will take a lot longer to digest what you eat. You stomach produces acid to digest this food. So the more food you eat, the more acid your stomach makes.

Prevent Heartburn at Night

People are more prone to experience heartburn during the night when they lie down. This is because when we lie down, it’s easier for the acid to reach our esophagus because gravity will no longer be of any help when we are lying down.
